Bengali Fish Fry is a delightful and flavorful dish that showcases the unique taste of Bengali spices. Here's a simple recipe for Bengali-style Fish Fry:

Ingredients:

  • 4 pieces of your choice of fish (popular choices include Rohu, Katla, or Hilsa)
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons mustard oil
  • 2 tablespoons besan (gram flour)
  • Water (as needed)
  • Mustard oil for frying

Instructions:

  • Clean and wash the fish pieces thoroughly. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • In a bowl, mix turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and mustard oil to form a thick paste.
  • Apply this spice paste evenly on both sides of the fish pieces. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, make a batter by mixing besan with water. Ensure the batter has a smooth consistency.
  • Heat mustard oil in a pan for frying. Dip each marinated fish piece into the besan batter, coating it evenly.
  • Carefully place the coated fish pieces into the hot oil. Fry them on medium heat until they turn golden brown and are cooked through. Fry in batches if needed.
  • Once fried, remove the fish pieces from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  • Serve hot Bengali Fish Fry with your favorite sauce, chutney, or a slice of lemon.

Enjoy this crispy and spiced Bengali-style Fish Fry as a perfect appetizer or as a side dish with rice.
